Pros and cons of the open plan office
Working in an open plan office has many benefits, including ease of communication with colleagues, a generally brighter environment and a team spirit which comes from the fact that everyone is working together in the same space. This is all well and good and as most of us tend to work in open plan offices these days we just accept the situation. But there are occasions when this can prove problematical and if you happen to work in an open plan office you will be well aware of the drawbacks.
For example, there is little or no privacy in this environment and there are times when even the closest knit team member will need their own space. This could be when one department needs to hold a meeting and this is when room dividers and office screens can help. These temporary walls will allow certain sections of the office to have a room partition which will give a feeling of privacy when meetings are necessary.
A room partition or a system of temporary walls is also useful if one group are working on a difficult assignment and they need to have a calm environment in which to carry out their work. This is the major drawback of the open plan office. It is difficult to cut yourself off from the hubbub of the room, so if this sounds familiar and you need a more subdued work space, room dividers and office screens can go a long way in helping you achieve this.
